The Piney Woods is home to Longview Bass Pro Shops/Cabela’s Boating Center, located in the heart of the best fishing and boating in East Texas.
We are about 6 miles north of Interstate 20 and 2 miles south of U.S. Hwy. 80. This puts us less than an hour drive to some of the best fishing in East Texas. Just 30 minutes away is Lake O’ the Pines, a 16,919-acre impoundment surrounded by pine forests. Crappie are abundant, as are largemouth bass—there’s a good chance you can land a Toyota ShareLunker (the program only allows entries of largemouth that weigh more than 13 lbs.). Or, head 45 minutes away to where the ShareLunker program all began in 1986 on Lake Fork. This impoundment is recognized as one of the state’s top trophy bass fisheries and is popular for tournaments. You’ll find plenty of crappie there, too, especially from early spring until the warmer months.
Caddo Lake is the most unique of our fisheries. Located 40 minutes east, Caddo is 25,400 acres. What makes it different are the maze of bayous, sloughs and ponds amid the backdrop of inundated forests of bald cypress trees draped with Spanish moss. Caddo is big bass country and also offers superb fishing for crappie and bluegill. Closer to home—just 10 minutes from us—you’ll find the Sabine River, a noted white bass and catfish fishery. On many of our water bodies, such as Caddo and the rivers flowing through our East Texas Piney Woods, you’ll also encounter great bow fishing. Alligator gar, carp, buffalo and other rough fish are prolific and provide great targets for bow anglers.
