Not all pontoons are created equal, even though many share common features and sport similar layouts. The good news for pontoon lovers is the most versatile models are designed so everyone can do their thing from the same boat, all day long.

No longer just for cruising, today’s pontoons are designed for watersports, fishing, entertaining and relaxing in comfort and style. Bringing your backyard party, complete with the cookout, to the water is a realistic picture of a day of fun onboard a pontoon.

What separates pontoons by water activity is interior organization, particularly at the bow and stern. Some pontoons lean more toward fishing with livewells, comfy casting chairs, rod holders and tackle storage. Optional trolling motors, fishfinders and other fishing amenities make these pontoons even more angler friendly. Others lean more toward entertaining with extra lounge seating, complete with storage, throughout the playpen. And then there are some that are ready for all of the above!

Three SUN TRACKER models are great examples of feature-packed pontoons that fit the bill for variety. What sets each model apart from the others? Read on to find out about the FISHIN’ BARGE 22 XP3, PARTY BARGE 22 XP3 and SportFish 22 XP3.

All three models include 22' 1" of deck space and deck widths of 8' 6", so everyone aboard can spread out. Wide decks also add all-important stability for fishing. A 200-horsepower maximum rating packs a punch for performance-minded boaters.

SUN TRACKER has built pontoons for 30 years, and being in the business that long puts them at the leading edge of design and quality construction in pontoons.

You find that in the three 26" pontoon logs with lifting strakes, which get the pontoon on plane faster. Less initial drag for improved fuel economy, better handling and excellent overall performance are the advantages. So is the obvious benefit of three—not two—pontoons in regard to greater stability.

Even the seemingly little things undergo continued refinement. All three models feature the patent-pending Stow More™ seat storage system that increases storage by 50% within lounges equipped with the seat-back storage compartments. Also standard is the QuickLift™ Bimini top deployment system. Raising and lowering the top is easier than ever—so easy that one person can do it alone.

2019 models also feature new padded woven vinyl flooring for added comfort, durability and style. Another nice touch is the removable table with two pedestal base locations. The captain of the ship rides in even more comfort with a new high-back, swiveling, reclining bucket seat with self-leveling arms. When it comes time to change clothes, the new pop-up changing curtain provides convenience and privacy.

When the morning bite is on, you can cast with comfort and confidence in the fishing-friendly SUN TRACKER FISHIN’ BARGE 22 XP3. You also have a spacious interior layout with features and amenities for an afternoon outing with friends and family.

Is it possible to enjoy fishing, cruising and watersports from the same pontoon boat? Of course! The FISHIN’ BARGE 22 XP3 is designed for all-day action, while leaning a tad bit more toward fishing features.

Up front is a spacious fishing deck with 12-gallon aerated livewell and a storage compartment that is prewired for the trolling motor that comes as part of the optional Fish Package. Aft is more fishing space with a 16-gallon aerated livewell, rod holders and easy access to lounge-back-integrated Stow More storage compartments.

What are especially convenient about the fore and aft fishing stations are the two comfortable fishing chairs at each one. Plus, the separate livewells allow anglers to keep live bait and/or fish nearby. That eliminates the hassle of having to walk to the other end of the deck to get bait or deposit a catch.

If your plans call for serious fishing, you can trick out the FISHIN’ BARGE 22 XP3 with the optional Fish Package. It includes a Lowrance HOOK2 5x fishfinder with a SplitShot™ transducer and GPS navigation, as well as a Minn Kota PowerDrive foot-controlled trolling motor.

The FISHIN’ BARGE 22 XP3 is cleverly designed so anglers have their own space at the front and rear of the pontoon boat. In between is spacious seating, plenty of storage options and the removable table for eating. Everyone stays happily entertained on the same boat, at the same time.

You can take the pool and patio party to the water with the SUN TRACKER PARTY BARGE 22 XP3. With its XP3 performance package and 200-horsepower rating, the PARTY BARGE 22 XP3 adds thrilling performance and superb handling to its impressive design.

A rather lengthy and impressive list of comfort and convenience features leaves nothing out for throwing the perfect party. There are four couches that provide comfort above and plentiful storage space beneath (as well as in the seat backs) so you leave nothing behind. Add everyone’s favorite beverages to the optional cooler and store it inside the storage area built into the console. The Bimini top deploys and stows with the touch of the finger, there’s the built-in changing station for privacy and the new removable table for a spread of delicious goodies.

The PARTY BARGE 22 XP3 leaves nothing out and comes as a full-featured pontoon boat. Three pontoon logs with lifting strakes provide a stable ride, and the full-width swim platform and boarding ladder make it perfect for watersports. An interior layout with spacious seating, abundant storage is sure to impress guests and invoke pride in owning the best family pontoon package for the money.

A FISHIN’ BARGE at the back and PARTY BARGE at the front—you get the best of two worlds with the SportFish 22 XP3.

In back is a full blown fishing deck. Two fishing chairs, a 16-gallon aerated livewell, rod holders and easy access to lounge-back-integrated storage compartments make this pontoon ready to fish.

For the relaxers and entertainers, three plush lounges (including the midship L-lounge), each with the Stow More seat storage system, offer all-day comfort. And for the thrill seekers, three 26” pontoon logs with lifting strakes and up to 200-horsepower are ready for making the most of cruising and watersports.

Adding the Fish Package option is a good idea if you plan to get more serious about enjoying the sport and inviting others to come onboard and wet a line. The package includes a Lowrance HOOK2 5x fishfinder with a SplitShot™ transducer and GPS navigation and a Minn Kota PowerDrive foot-controlled trolling motor.

You get a full-featured pontoon boat for family entertainment with a touch of fishing amenities. There is something for everyone without compromising what is expected from a pontoon boat designed with variety in mind.

All three pontoons have features crossing over within models for good reasons. Making the best use of available space to keep everyone aboard entertained—all day long—are those reasons. You can choose from a neutral balance of fishing or traditional pontoon features without going overboard either way.

Sorting through the options and deciding which pontoon is right for you is the goal at a Bass Pro Shops/Cabela’s Boating Center. You will never be rushed to make a decision.
